New music production courses at Little Cottage for summer 2022

We are excited to announce more new hosts and courses for 2022! We now offer one to one music production courses, set at any level you need from beginner to advanced.

Peter Moon is an accomplished musician, producer, film maker and writer who will take you from beginner to being able to record a record in just one day. Further days or half days can be added on any subject you like from ADR for film, music installations, wild sound recording in nature using surround sound ambisonic microphones to advance mastering and production techniques.

This amazing experience has limited availability but can be added on to any stay. Some quotes from artists who took the course.

“Peter took us from first principles of sound, through how to set up volumes and gain to record any instrument in just the first hour! By the end of the day, I felt confident I could set out to record my band and capture quality sound for an engineer to mix in a studio. He made it seem simple, logical and his patience really helped me not to stress about the technology and concentrate on the artistic process” David.

“Peter’s crash course in film sound recording and wild sound recording was brilliant! A morning out in the beautiful local countryside collecting and recording sound in a variety of ways, including the latest surround sound microphones. Then an afternoon in the 200 year old wharf studio by the estuary learning what I had done right and what I had done wrong was invaluable. One to one tuition with lots of free coffee, (although he made me grind the beans by hand), means my low budget film will now sound so much better thanks to his experience. I still write and he answers my questions with kindness and patience and seems happy to have people wanting to learn the vanishing art of film sound”. Robert.

“I have done lots of free YouTube courses, which have been great and gave me a good understanding of sound art and felt ready to learn more formally. But… there are no short courses at all in the UK I could find and I don’t have the time or money for a degree module. Peter asked me a lot of questions so he could taylor a 2 day intensive course to my needs and level of competence

I never once felt patronised and he gave me the confidence to try out my wilder ideas. Having a huge library of books in the studio meant I could take time to look at techniques for inspiration. Peter took me through is amazing Arduino powered Grandfather Clock Time Machine installation, which we took apart and rebuilt with my own sound art. Peter is a rare combination of arcane knowledge shared with patience and humility and clearly wants to share what he knows with you. I remain in touch with him and we often bounce ideas of each other. I can”t recommend him highly enough. ” Emma.
