New analogue photography courses at Little Cottage for summer 2022

We are excited to announce new hosts and courses for 2022!

We now offer one to one silverline photography. Taking a 100 year old box brownie camera, you will be taken out to a location of your choice for the morning and taught how to use an analogue camera! Using traditional black and white 120 roll film, and learn techniques including multiple exposure using basic mathematics to work out the correct exposure times for artistic multiple exposures.

Then, back at the cottage in the afternoon, you will learn how to develop the film using nothing but household chemistry including coffee, soda crystals, vitamin C and salt! Not only is caffenol developing much better for the environment, it’s also very low cost compared to traditional chemistry for film.

You can then take a photo of the negative, reverse it and show it to friends or print using low cost high street digital printing. The cost for the day is just £100 for one person, an extra £30 for a second person and each subsequent person taking the course. including all materials, transport, (no car needed), camera and written guide to take home. A maximum of 4 people means you will receive personal attention from the photographer.

This amazing experience has limited availability but can be added on to any stay. Some quotes from artists who took the course.

“Caroline took us right back to the basics of the early days of photography and explained everything in simple terms, with no jargon and assumed we were total beginners. Even though I am not, I found this really helpful. Her love for the craft was obvious from the start and the results were astounding! I would never have thought such a simple camera could be so much fun. I have all the notes and have since gone on to work on a series of photographs in London for a future exhibition. Compared to other methods, this is very affordable, meaning one can experiment more and not worry about the costs. Highly recommended!” Anna.
