Verre églomisé is listed as a craft in danger of dying out, so few people practice it. An ancient skill going back over 1000 years of making images incorporating gold, silver, copper or platinum leaf onto glass. Sheila McCann Downes is one of the countries leading exponents of the craft and we are so pleased to be able to offer this very rare craft in Little Cottage.

Over 2 days, Sheila will take you through the history, methodologies and tips on how to succeed at this notoriously difficult technique. Then you will design your own picture under guidance that will work with the gilding and painting. By the end of day one, you will have successfully put leaf onto glass.

On day 2, after the size has dried, you will learn the painting and backing techniques used to complete the picture then frame the glass once dry to take home with you to impress your friends.

The price for this course is £175 for the two days including a hearty vegetarian lunch for both days, all materials, drinks, cake morning and afternoon, tea, coffee and a framed picture like the ones above to take home. Each additional person can be added to the course for £95 per person.
